For the U3A Christmas Party 2025, Sue North made this beautiful table decoration in memory of Wendy.

It was raffled off and made another ยฃ123 for the John Eastwood Hospice. ๐Ÿ˜Š
Many thanks to all who bought a raffle ticket.

A message from Pam Hardwick our charity coordinator

Mmmmm a good party and it was great to see so many new faces, I hope you were entertained well and enjoyed yourselves.
The sale of bingo and sticky thirteen games came to ยฃ125 and the generosity of the winners in donating back their winnings swelled the proceeds to ยฃ145.
A member donated ยฃ5 and others donated 23p,( that was a funny story which has been repeated much to the amusement of the listeners)
My lovely group of gardeners donated ยฃ17 this month and it all added up to ยฃ167.23 which I have just transferred to our chosen charity.
So we have smashed our hopeful target of ยฃ9,000 ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ and have up to today raised ยฃ9,150.00.
My thanks go to you all for being so generous in supporting this life saving service and my hopes are that you will not need them to rescue you at any time in the future.
So I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year.
See you soon
Pam Hardwick
Charity coordinator.

Past Events

  • Quiz night November 2025

What a spectacular night the Events team laid on for us all, starting with a delicious meal served by Culinary Delights from Edwinstowe, the Pork loin steaks were extremely tasty and I'm sure the other options were just as delicious.

It was lovely to see Chris Neighbour there who has just lost his dear wife Wendy ๐Ÿซ‚

After teas and coffees the quiz started, hosted by Roy and Sue Dexter who pitched it just right, it was a very entertaining quiz with 4 rounds of 5 questions then a picture round and then 4 more rounds of 5, each round had a theme and there was a lot of head scratching around the room.

There were about 15 teams of 4-6 people all with exotic team names and the winning team who led from the start were called 'Highly Strung', as they came from the Tennis group. The team was Jean Parry-Williams, Ann Street, Sue Coulson, John Harris, Jeff Coulson and Paul Webb, who will share the trophy for a year, and they all received a nice goody bag.

In the interval there was a bottle raffle run by Pam and we all raised around ยฃ168 for the Air Ambulance charity

I'd like to offer a big thankyou to the Events team once again for a fantastic and enjoyable evening, look out for the next events!

  • Clipstone Headstocks

What an interesting morning we all spent at the Clipstone Headstocks museum. We learned so much from Stuart about the history and the legacy of the site and about Nottingham and the surrounding areas.

Stuart told us about Raleigh cycles and all the amazing inventions, then about the war years and the many vehicles and flying machines and also about the mine itself and all the machinery.

There were so many interesting facts and figures, including the depth of the mine, 920 metres, the speed of the lifts, 30 mph for the descent, the amount of coal that was mined, 1 Million tons per year!

Most of us retired to Rumbles in Vicar Water country park for a delicious variety of lunches and scones, all made fresh in the open kitchen by the talented chef

Well worth a visit on a Friday at 11am
